The PBR Monster Energy Team Challenge presented by CAMPING WORLD (METC) is a PBR Teams showcase, bringing head-to-head, team vs. team bull riding games to new venues during Unleash The Beast events beginning at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 3.

On the first night of the UTB event, two PBR Teams rivals will play one 6-on-6 game. Riders participating in the rivalry game will attempt one bull each that night. Their scores will count in the event aggregate and the UTB standings for the annual championship. The UTB-qualified riders in this game held at the end of the first round will also go on to compete the remainder of the UTB weekend. (If a rider who hadn’t qualified for the UTB gets a score in his game, he can continue in the weekend as well.)

These will be the final 12 outs in the first night of UTB competition.

There are 15 METC games – each team will play 3 games against the same rival. CBS Television Network will carry 10 games.

Game results do not count toward the annual Teams championship. Riders’ points in the METC will count toward the UTB standings as well as that weekend’s event championship, won by the top rider in the aggregate. There’s also $180,000 in added money for participating team riders over the course of the 15 games.

Fans have told us they really like the teams format in addition to individual competition, and PBR Teams has been a phenomenally successful format over 3 seasons. TV ratings are strong (two games had more than 2 million viewers in October), and attendance increased +15% in the 2024 season, when the league expanded from 8 to 10 teams. This is an opportunity to showcase team competition to fans who may not be able to get to one of the 13 Teams events during the PBR Camping World Team Series season. It also helps teams to continue to build their brands, businesses, and fan bases all year round.

Coaches can select the order of riders but NOT the bull matchups. (Random draw on bulls).

Outs will count towards both the riders’ UTB and PBR Teams historical records.

For the riders competing for their Teams in the rivalry game, like a normal PBR Teams event, the decision to accept or decline re-ride options will be at the discretion of the Head Coach during their game, and PBR Teams Re-Ride rules apply.

If a Team has six UTB Qualified riders on their Protected Roster, all six must compete in the Game.

If a Team has more than six UTB Qualified riders on their Protected Roster, all riders will be competing in the event (if they are healthy and able). The Head Coach will select which of his six riders he wants to compete for his Team in the game.

  • If a non-UTB qualified rider(s) fails to get a qualified ride in the PBR Teams game, they will no longer participate in the UTB event subsequent Rounds.
  • If the non-UTB Qualified rider(s) does get a qualified ride in the game, they will be drawn a bull for the subsequent round(s) and continue through the UTB competition for the remainder of the event.
  • The UTB Standings points that rider may have previously earned and is able to earn that weekend determine his status for UTB qualification at future events in accordance with the UTB Qualifications outlined in the PBR Rulebook.

Any rider outside the UTB cut off who is brought in for the METC game and has a qualified ride in that game has the opportunity to continue to compete that weekend. If they don’t register a qualified ride in their game, they don’t continue on that weekend.
